College Accommodation

A standard room contains a single bed, a pillow and an under-sheet as well as a couple of blankets. It is best that you bring some of your own stuff (duvet, sheets etc) and it gives it that homely feel although you can order a set from college. On top of that there are two chairs, a wardrobe, a notice board (for all those posters), a sink and numerous shelves for all the books you will acquire. If there are any major problems with your contact the College Affairs VP.

For maintenance problems e.g. a light blowing then the men in blue, aka the maintenance men, will come to your rescue. Just write the problem in the maintenance book in South Building foyer. Your college room will be cleaned once a week by your scout. When you start at St Hilda’s you will be told when this is. Please try to leave your floor clear (if only by stacking everything on your bed) so that they can vacuum your room. Your bin will be emptied every week day as long as you leave it outside your door ready for the morning. The scouts clean the bathrooms and toilets every week day; please be careful over the weekend because these can get especially messy- your scout and the other people on your corridor will be very grateful! There is a paper recycling box and a tin/can bin in the kitchen for you to use so please help out the environment a bit!

You are not allowed fairy lights or candles in your room because they are a serious fire hazard. Due to the new laws in place you are not allowed to smoke in your rooms but don’t worry because college will be putting allocated areas outside for smoking purposes. For security reasons it is best to close your window and lock your door when you go out. Even if you are on the 3rd floor this is still the case because a) a burglar with a long ladder may get in or (more likely) b) our wonderful grounds are home to large numbers of birds and squirrels who are significantly less cute when they get in and trash your room.
